Baby Names Inspired by the Bard

Thursday 23 April would have been William Shakespeare’s 451st birthday, so if your new baby arrives on this day, what better way to honour our most famous Bard than to name your child after him or one of his many characters.

We’ve compiled a list of Shakespeare’s strong female characters and heroic male leads to give you some inspiration.

Girls

  • Beatrice: (Much Ado About Nothing) - Beatrice is feisty, cynical, witty, and sharp.
  • Bianca: (Taming of the Shrew) - Bianca is described as a strong and fiery woman.
  • Celia: (As You Like It) - Celia is silent and reserved; worldly and prudent, although full of life and humour.
  • Helena: (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) - Helena is described as romantic, thoughtful and devoted.
